'Tis the season to be petty

Ya gotta love December, eh? The time of year when people of all religions come together to feel left out and resentful.

"If they put a menorah or any other religious symbol, I have no objection, but leave the Christmas tree alone."

... staff didn't have time to play cultural anthropologists

Is there a connection between these two cases?

Jeepers! At least the menorah actually has a religious significance, and this is Hannukah time, after all. The Christmas tree is not a Christian symbol. Today it means one thing only - shopping.

Hands up those who know what the real symbol of Christmas is supposed to be - the nativity scene of course! But you wouldn't think so if you came from another planet. You might see it in miniature on the mantel, but the tree is always the focal point for Christians and heathens alike who celebrate Christmas.

I dislike all religions because they are so illogical and have been used to create so much human suffering. Still, it would not bother me to see a mixture of symbols, including the Muslim and African American ones, displayed at this time of various holy days and celebrations. It would give me some hope that maybe we are finally capable of a little peace and goodwill.

Picture it - nativity scenes illuminated by Menorahs and Kinaras interlaced with Islamic prayer beads. Add Mr. Sun and no Christmas tree on earth could match the beauty of it all.

I saw a Hannukah card that said "Light gives hope". Makes sense to me. Let's all try to lighten up over Christmas.

Happy Hannukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Id

Update: Tree reinstated:
Attorney General overrides judge and banished tree "will shine again in its old spot".
